And where would we be without that willingness to share ? Time and time again we uncover more by reposting a previously seen image, especially on BHF where debate and further research is actively encouraged.

lyn, i think that is the way it should be particularly historical photos about regular people!

I remember Birchfield Rd in the 60's. I used to work at Maison Celeste. A hairdressing salon. We used to play jokes on the new apprentices, sending them next door (a hardware shop, for a glass hammer or ' along weight' (wait!)) Further to the left was a cafe where we used to go for a lunch or mince pie (Byrons, I think it was called) To the right of the hairdressers was the cinema. One day I met a blind date there. I came across him on Radio Caroline. He was training to be a Doctor. John Cunningham....wonder if he ever made it! He took me to the YMCA and afterwards for a coffee.
On the opposite side of the road there was a butchers, a handbag shop ++ you had to use the underpass to get there.
I used to go out with someone who lived round the corner from the cinema. It was 1967 and a wonderful summer!

eastern side of birchfield road 1959..all gone now i think that could be birchfield school on the far left

Ah yes, very familiar with that view!
My Junior School in the background on the left and the shop where my mother worked before she married, Mrs Wilks haberdashery, next to Dodds. I went in there with her many times when I was small.

I wonder who the car belonged to?!

Wilkins was 359 birchfield road
Thank you
Wilkins was 359 birchfield road
I got to know Birchfield Rd, quite well in the 40s
walked up and down there 100s of times trying to get ciggies
for the motley crew of builder's where I was employed as an apprentice.
Like Aston, I bought a lot of my tools from Dodd's and also
used to take the picks and crowbars to be sharpened
at the Blacksmith in Welling ton Road, also taking timesheets
to the offices at #316, just opposite the Odeon
Dennis can you tell me if you remember anything about num142 birchfield road please I was born there in 51 and have been trying to find what it looked like can you help please

Number 142 looks as if it was towards the Newtown/Lozells end of Birchfield Road.
There are no houses on that side of the road now for some distance, it's mainly green space.
At a guess I would say it was around where Wilson Road meets Birchfield Road?

That’s right Hatfield road can you tell me what the house looked like please can’t find any pictures of it
I really don't know I'm afraid, although I would have travelled past on the bus into Town, I lived towards the Great Barr side of Perry Barr, I can't remember what that end looked like now.
Maybe someone else on the Forum can help?
