VivThis must have originally been built as the Bournbrook Hotel judging by the Holt’s Brewery ghost sign across the front of the pub. Surprprised to see such a large pub still standing and still operating as such. Viv.

I have to admit I was the designer who with a contractor, converted the Bournbrook to the Old Varsity Tavern, back in the '80's, good times, sadly I didn't own it or I would be living it up on the French Riviera now.Viv
It was still the Brournbrook Hotel in the 1960s & 70s, before the disease of name-changing infected pubs

i passed it last week and thought what a strange name for a pub

Why was this pub called the Goose at OVT - what is the Goose connection please?Yes, changed yet again, in more recent times. Started as the Bell and Malt Shovel, then the Malt Shovel, then the Bournbrook Hotel, then the Old Varsity Tavern and then the Goose at the OVT (Old Varsity Tavern)
