Ashted Hamlet

Keith

As I said previously 69 was a bit late for me I had moved out of the district by then, but I used the Hamlet from when it opened until then.

I knew Johnny Twyford & his family well, he wasn't that much older than myself and he grew up as a friend of the family. He married a Brummy girl Renie who was a mate of my mothers. I also Knew Dick Clinch ( I thought it was Lynch) I worked for him once when he was foreman at Bryants. You must have know little Danny Mingle and Joe Higgins the Scots lad who lived in the tower block next to the Hamlet. What a snooker player.

Yes Danny Mingle is another name from the past. I am sure Dick was named Clinch as my mother showed me his obtituary in the Birmingham Mail some months ago he was a friend of my Dads who also drank in the Conservative Club. Bernard and Shamus were definatley named Lynch.

You are probably right about Dick I'm not much of a one for names. There used to be a couple more Irish chaps that used to be in that crowd that I can't remember the names of that you might recall. Another slow quietly speaking chap called Peter and an old chap who always wore a trilby who's name might or might not have been Jack who used to be a timekeeper at some big factory. There was a small balding chap who I think was called Malone who lived by Dick in the maisonettes.
