Archers Supply Stores

Can anyone provide any information on what we believe are at least two shops - maybe more - in Birmingham that were owned by the Archer family, at least as far back as 1880. We are assuming it was initially George Archer, then his son Albert George Archer and after him George William Archer.

One shop was at Six Ways and from what we found the building was demolished in 1937/38. There is a also a tea shop mentioned at Six Ways.
Other addresses include Hollyfield Road (a Mr Brookes) which we have limited information on from 1969, and Albert Road/Rookery Road (this one had employees in the 50s/60s called Dawn and Norman)1000042301.jpg

Great photo. Can only see one mention in the newspapers and that's the High St shop.

Apart from that, the deaths of Albert and Minnie get mentioned as does the marriage of one of their daughters.

Someone has a bit of a tree on familysearch, possibly a descendant of Albert's sister Mary. They do have Albert's place of death incorrect though.

Archer’s Supply Stores was advertised as outlet for free trial bottle of Emu wine at Six ways Erdington in March 1934.

In December 1910 outlets for Gilbey’s Wines included G Archer, Six Ways Erdington, Tea Warehouse. Also Archer’s Stores, Albert Road and Rookery Road.

1972 No Archers Stores. (106 rookery Road is Sidhu’s Wine & Food Stores)

Also – From 1890 till some time after 1924 there us an Archer, George, shopkeeper, 17 Sutherland street, Aston. Sometime before 1932 the shop is taken over by Lily Archer . Shortly after the beginning of the 19th century, the other George Archer shops are listed as a combined entry, before separately. The Sutherland road shop remains listed separately, which possibly indicates that it was a different George.

Note 238 Albert Road and 106 Rookery Road are the same buildimg

There are a number of other shopkeeper Archers, who likely were related. In the Early days a Harry, and , in particular John Archer, who until 1892 was a grocer grocer, & agent for W. & A.Gilbey, wine &spirit merchants, 129 Church lane, Aston. This was immediately before George is listed as an agent for Gilbeys and after which he seems not to be so listed.
