Alfred Gregory my Great Grandfather, born Birmingham 1846, appears in the 1881 census living in Grt.Western Terrace with his wife and family. Looking at the 1871 census his wife, Mary (Bennett) is living with her parents with two of their children with no sign of Alfred. Mary is listed as “wife of jeweller”. My question is where is Alfred in 1871? Was he away visiting, if so should he not appear somewhere on the census. Was he abroad? Had he been enlisted in the forces? Was he in prison? Can someone advise me where to look to further my research? Thanks in advance.

i believe i have found the one you want in 1871. census on ancestry is under alfred grre?? living with william marian aged 60 in st james clerkenwell. chris
 
Well done, a question asked and a solution within minutes. I take my hat off too you both, Louisa and Chris. Chris, I've found the page you refer to in the 1871 census, but it appears a very poor copy. Can I obtain a better copy elsewhere?

This ties in with the birth place of two of Alfreds children so it is likely that the Misson family may be relatives.

There were two Gregorys at All Saints School in the 1950s Pat who lived by Gt Western Terrace and Wendy who lived off Lodge Road any one related??
