thanks rob so it was not a pub as such as janice has also found it as a beer retailer in 1940...think we now have a photo of no1 but i have asked our mikejee to do some research to make sure before i post it..
hi dave when you log on again read this thread from post 89..members have researched no 1 and it goes back a long way..we have found out quite a bit of history of it..below is more info from mikejee and lucky you a photo of no 1...seems to me that it was never a named public house at least we can find no evidence but more of an off licence /outdoor..sorry the photo is a tad dark but looking at it it has net curtains at the door which was typical of outdoors.. below is mikes info... lyn
Up till 1884 the building is listed as 49 winson green roa occupied by john Bradshaw, grocer.. Technically it was also 1 Aberdeen St, but was not listed as such. 1888-1890 it was 49 winson green road, John Bradshaw, grocer and beer retailer.
Next door was no 50 , Harry Barnbrook , tobacoonist.
1892 still John Bradshaw, but no 50 was Thomas Beesley, tobacconist.
1895 the building was listed as John bradshaw, grocer and beer retailer at 1 aberdeen St
and there she is in all her glory! and all that information about the place! From a sunny, warm morning down in NZ thanks to everyone who posted on this, very much appreciated.

Thanks Lyn, be interesting to see more if and when you get some. I remember the pub, my best friend’s Dad used to frequent it. Anyone remember the Rose family that lived a few doors up? Dennis(father) Eileen(mother) with two boys Rob and brother Kevin. Rob, sadly passed few years ago now
