Sorry to be so sloppy Ann. I'll try to do better in future!
Wales, if nothing else this thread must surely turn up a picture of 'your' Vine eventually.

Bob

ANN B, I forgot to mention Wetherspoons in Poplar Rd, Solihull next to the Marks & Spencers carpark its the former Council House, you can have food and the drink prices are reasonable.

Postie,

Well done, when I lived in Francis Street in the 50's and 60's that is where the public washing baths stood on the corner of Willis St. I never heard of any mention of a Vine pub, but there again I was only a kid.

Phil

Hooray, thanks Postie. Since I'd obviously scanned it from somewhere I felt sure somebody else would come up with it and good to note that it was a pub in the heart of our area.
The problem with 'Wales's Vine' is that there is probably nothing published. It will probably depend on whether anyone took their own photo so could drag on for some time yet!

Bob

bob and phil. i feel sure my vine inn will turn up one day. its become a mission with me now lol lyn:)

The lad in the lane still has original beams which are dated took american friend who was astounded because it was built 300yrs before declaration of independance and is oldest pub in Birmingham despite the old crown digbeth trying to claim the title. It was named Lad in the lane after a small boy was killed by horse and cart outside of pub .

hi len

Hi Lyn, only 8yrs late but, although I'm sure you did get your photo eventually, I was intrigued by the debate on the Vine Inn which was on the corner of Alma St & Whitehead St. I was reading the thread yesterday after finding the map of this pub which was posted by Mikejee. It was dated 1889 so I'm sure it ceased to be a pub long before the 50s because I'd never seen it as a pub during my time living in the area. I've posted my car photo before on another thread but, the significance of it now is that it shows that building on the left of the photo. Perhaps the only photo of that building that was originally the Vine Inn?

There was 'The Vine' at the top of Bracebridge Street near Aston Road that my father drank in.

The Vine is the white building that sticks out on the right of photograph beside the first parked car. Aston Road can be seen on the far right of the photograph.
