That them. We would have a whip round and share them between us. Sophisticated treats or sophisticated cinema goers, us like a pack if wild dogs fighting over who had one more matchmaker. That was true luxury and beyond my budget back then, they will be back on the shelves for Christmas though and they are a tasty little treat.

Now sold by Nestle using the Quality Street brand name that they bought in 1988. It seems that all the chocolate is either manufactured or owned by a company outside the UK now.According to Wikipedia they were introduced in 1968 by Rowntree and were about 1/3 their present size (ie match length).
Now owned by Nestle.

Just thinking of Erdington again, does anyone recall Elmo supermarket? A brand that came and disappeared without anyone noticing.
The Palace Cinima was quite interesting. The foyer was very long and bent to the right. Someone told me that this was when it was a very small village theatre. The cinema auditorium was a later addition added at the back and the original theatre becoming the foyer.
The Palace Cinima was I recall quite decorative, did it have false balcony’s and ornate carvings etc?
There was of course The Palace Ballrooms upstairs too. I never remember shits open, but was told it had a very finely decorated ceilings.
That’s it Janice, in Central Square. looks like they were a chain, maybe they got bought up by the big boys.1968 phone book

I had a similar outfit from Chelsea Girl, I remember I wore it to a cousin's wedding!Ah, Chelsea Girl . L oved that shop ! Wish I had a photo of a favourite outfit - patchwork top attached to a blue opened fronted short 'coat' to show matching blue hot pants! Thought I was the bees knees!!
Any photographs of said hot pants outfits?Well that's a blast from the past. I had a blouse/coat (to knee length) open fronted over hotpants combo. It was yellow with flowers on, very floaty, light material . Wore it with suede boots, even in summer. I'm now wondering if I bought it from Erdington Chelsea Girl too, very probable. Thanks for the reminder - I adored mine too, very easy to wear and looked good, even though I say it myself ! And I would have definitely worn it parading up and down High Street Erdington.
This was the Music Box back in 1983, remember it was there in the early 1980s
sad to say its also a no go area for me now alberta..used to love shopping down the high streetSeeing pedrocuts post of Sept 2024, my mother always 'went up the village' , my sister lives in Erdington and loved walking along the village for over 70years but sadly it has changed so much that she does not feel safe and is upping sticks.
It is having a lot of problems and is not the 'village' of our past.
My memories of Erdington village1960s is old Mr Hazel dressed in black with top hat standing outside his undertakers business looking like he was touting for customers.
