Looks like UPTONS but I can't find it in Kelly's

Can anybody decipher the name of this decorator ? & sons. I've tried Quinns, Burns and others but no luck. Thanks. Photo was probably taken mid to late 60s but I think the decorator is from much earlier.

No, Post 32 is the Davenport's Garage, Post 44 is Thomas Plant. Mike has just supplied verified the Davenport's Garage as #26/27 which is great as I couldn't find anything in Kelly's.

A summary of what I have found of the history of the properties on the 'south side' of Marshall Street.

Last image showing Thomas Plant, on the far right of the image the name John is visible, it could be the factory of John Henry Gibbs (mfg. perfumer) listed in Kelly's 1939.

It's not surprising that the Kelly's directory lacks details if the former Midland Sandblast Co building is anything to go by. Between 2008 and 2024 it changed hand or rebranded 8 times.

Kelly's directory has been of little help identifying businesses on the 'south side' of marshall street between 1949 and 1973 (see attached). I would very much appreciate it if someone with a subscription to The British Newspaper Archive could find information for this period. I can only assume...

It certainly is, I thought at first that it was a B&W image that had been colourised but it's genuine. It was originally scanned and posted by SteveBHX.
