Talking about characters, before the influx of W Indians when all locals were white we had two coloured gents an Indian GP and a door to door salesman a Sikh I think, he wore a turban, he sold silk neckties out of a suitcase, the lads used to call him Sidi Ali ben Woolworth.

Towards the top end on the left Sam opposite Carshalton Road, there are three blocks in an arc, I think it was one of those and rebuilt after the war. Not sure which, the memory has faded :(

My dad was in the Civil defense during the war, I don't know what part he actually played, I know he had a St Johns book about treating injuries that he studied most nights when it was quiet.

Probably no relation but our neighbours in the 1930/40s at No 80 Hurlingham Road, were Johnsons Mr Johnson used to repair bicycles in his shed and collapsed and died in there one evening, his widow stayed on for many years after, they had a son Peter who served in the Royal navy.

Had me screaming at the screen "Check the bleedn timing and put the plug leads on right." After first shouting "Put some rope down the plugholes to free the stuck valves." Any mechanic from the fifties/sixties would have had the running in ten minutes. :rolleyes:

When we were kids in Hurlingham Road we had a policeman living across the road, playing football or cricket in the road stopped suddenly when he came out on his way to work and recommenced when he pedalled of on his bike. :) He was Pc Summers stationed at Kingstanding police station.

The roadway over it is very much like the one at Perry Bar are they of the same age?

This is in my memory, when I was 13 I worked Saturdays on a Bradford's bread round, I recall taking a loaf to the top floor for a blind lady, she tipped me with a penny said "It's not much but they all add up."

I've been driving EVs now for seven years, it's been a good inexpensive ride but it was inevitable to me at the start that sooner or later the tax bomb would arrive. All speculation at the moment probably hinted at by the chancellor to make it less of a shock when/if it happens.
