    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

First tonight is the Ivy Bush Inn on Hagley Road, rather an imposing view with the large lamp with its supporting iron work, the painted corner sign but then the tiny clock below the lamp. Love the sash and leaded windows and the enamel road signs. Inregueing is the man stood on the corner I...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Last one for tonight and again no location although it may be Steward street and may be 1950's and this is a scene we no longer see, the rear of terraced house - there is everything in this view back passages, out house attic windows chimneys and the rear extension for the outhouses - wonderful...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Now if I am a correct, from the previous image if we turn 180 degrees we come to this view. Chadwick Engineering three storey brick built works with the Ansells pub further down the road. Metal framed windows with openings that tilt backwards and a fine selection Austin Moris cars on the road.

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

We now move to Lawrence Street and I think Duke Street, a rather poor picture but for a couple of things - firstly the child on the left which anywhere else would look like a " Banksey" picture !! and the second item is the man with a cart in the middle of the road - probably never been seen...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

I seems to recall this next image but feel for the atmosphere alone it bears repeating- we are on the corner of Well Street , Barclays Bank in front of us as a man in a long coat and hat walks towards us, the misty view shows " The Trees across the road vans cars and a bus leaving the city...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

This next image has a bit of personal history attached - firstly location as you know without me telling you is Great Hampton Street, Nos. 72 and 73 included - there are so many companies both large and small, some have a room and some whole building by the look of it , and so many styles with...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

As you may recall we are used to informative captions which you then fill in for me and I update the caption - this is one of them - titled looking down Steward Street- firstly the image is a bit stark as I had to lighten it considerably to get a workable image . Working from the left block...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

So it doesn't take much of a leap of faith to work out that this must be the interior of the previous building , very much from the past, with drive wheels , pulleys, belts , pillar drill, anvil and a big hammer ( brummy screwdriver) a large forge / furnace on the left too.

It helps if you look through the roll first - next we have this closer view of "Arthur Black " who now has a full name and an updated building with new external plasterwork. We cannot tell any more about the area although the name may provide a location for those of you with the books.

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

First a few gap fills from Roll 28, most on this Roll are repeat of repeats but this first one is a bit unusual, as is usual there is not a description - those I have for this roll are pubs and this was a church - shame what has become of it - bricked up windows property next door is just as sad...

Good evening and OMG have I been away that long. Firstly apologies I am well, have not been out of the country and have not lost my laptop, just got into one of those runs when you will do it tomorrow. Also a second apology to Lyn as she knows the amount of pictures I have of hers and must be...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

We now have The Church Inn, and its interesting to compare this photo to the one on #1525, this taken earlier but not much has changed between the two pictures, there is no longer a petrol station next door and the chimney in the middle of the roof has gone but pretty much everything else is the...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Last one on Roll 26, and another image posted just for interest ( I will remove it if on a later roll I come across a better version. This is listed as the Gate Inn Saltley from 1894, people in Top hats and ladies in full skirts, due to the quality I posted as per the negative -

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

My listing gives this as Swan Hotel Washwood Heath Road, seems to be a photograph with staff, couple of people wearing aprons. Love the "Bowling Green and pleasure Gardens" sign on the wall, there are three windows with Leaded tops and one with tiles, wonder what happen to the one with tiles...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

sorry to reply to my own post- however I have found another copy of this picture and the listing for that photo states Lodge Tyre Company Redhill Road 1940 - does that help or hinder the search?

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Following on from mikejees image I can transport you back even further - Firstly apologies for the format of the picture - but we loose too much in straightening the image ( well I do) again no date but at least we know it is Great Lister Street, plenty to see within the image . On the extreme...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

This picture is described as looking down Sladefield Road , I have two versions, one a lot darker but fuller image with legs on the children or this lighter image - neither are amazing but I think this offers the better view down the road, lads have white collars and the girls have full dresses...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

A somewhat faded image - the details say it is Saltley High Street, looking up to Washwood Heath Road on the left and Alum Rock Road ., Looks like a cart running down the middle of the tram tracks - poles for the tram wire running either side of the road and you can just make out a person on...

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

This picture is titled Old Pub bomb, High Street Saltley 1945, I am assuming this is a war time bomb, dropped on the area, people standing on the flattened remains of a building although the walls at the rear look intact and the front wall of a pub type building to the front right. Is there any...
