    Yes, the maps has it as a Medical Mission and it is looking like the whole corner building was a part of it. Maybe that explains why no entrance. If you look at the Google map view you can see the hint of a hipped roof linking the two building together.

    Well there is a 13 bore gauge for shot guns. If I recall correctly the larger the number, the smaller the bore. I recall Punt guns were 4 bore, almost like a cannon. The choke on shotgun is to control how much spread the shot. They can be changed by inserting different choke tubes.

    The Erdington Almshouses were built by the Sir Josiah Mason Trust and as Pedrocut correctly says the window are more like the orphanage

    It is, the island is part of the stop lock that still there today. There use to be a single plank as a bridge to get to the island and some of the moored boats. I think it was sometime in the 90’s they build a proper bridge.

    The loss of thousands of perfectly useable terrace houses and buildings is one of those things I too have a bee in my bonnet for. Like everting else there is never a single explanation. I will say the main culprit was a change in how councils were funded in the mid-50s. Government subsidies...
