    Struggling street address

Well done Ladies - it's so easy when you know what it is! Kywicks could have been anything when I first read it. I wonder how many times difficult words have been translated on this forum and how many roads etc have been found?

    Beezer

The picture is of Dad, John Bennett, on his BSA and on the back it says 'The Beezer' which I understand is what the bikes were nicknamed. Could someone enhance it for me please and perhaps give me an idea of what year the bike might have been made. Tall order I know but there are some cars in...

    Jordan's Grave - New Oscott

Pedro, I couldn't find it on Dugdales First edition in Sutton Library only on the second edition but these are, if course, copies. Good to know that it's even earlier. Thanks.

Oscott Colleges (old Oscott And New Oscott)

Some time ago (three years to be precise), Bob Davis sent me these postcards and I promised to put them on the Forum. I have apologised to Bob for the delay by DM. The Feast of St Joseph is March 19th (PC 11 reverse) and it was sent with PC 12. I wonder how much the Arts and Crafts chairs in...

    Jordan's Grave - New Oscott

I can confirm that the earliest mention of Jordan's Grave that I've come across is on the map drawn by Beighton in 1725. He was apparently a very thorough surveyor and didn't rely on earlier maps which others had done before. This map pre-dates theories which I've come across many of which seem...

So very sad to hear this news. We also have several of Eric's paintings on our walls such lovely reminders of a smashing, generous man. We will miss you Eric. Graham and Penny

Viv, I wonder if the little patch of grass in your screen shot might be the remains of the burial ground?

    Cemetery - nearest to Deritend

On the map Mike posted on #15 it looks as though there were some substantial grave stones. I've been trying to remember the details of the burial I was interested in. It was Eleanor Lowe (can't remember her d.o.d but I thought it was earlier than that mentioned above). I'm trying to connect her...

    Cemetery - nearest to Deritend

No sign of the chapel or the 'pleasant little hamlet' mentioned in Viv's cutting. It couldn't have been very salubrious being next to the tannery could it?

He looks more like the doorman Viv. Mom used to go to Tony's - I think it was very popular.

Thanks Viv, It sounds very much as if this is the one. I was tracing one of my 'lines' and came across it some years ago but everything is packed up in boxes in the garage and I keep saying I'll go through them. One Day!

    Cemetery - nearest to Deritend

Hi Viv, I know this is an old thread but I though I'd add my four pennorth. I do know that there was a burial ground opened in 'Cooper's Field' which I believe was near the old windmill owned by Mr Cooper. I think St Martin's was becoming overcrowded even around the late 1700's as grave was...

Not sure if this has been mentioned but the National School was later moved to Spring Lane where it is known as St Barnabas C of E Primary School.

    The Railways in Wartime

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread. I used most of your information and the day was a success. We held the exhibition in the Booking Hall of Sutton Station and had over a hundred visitors including our Member of Parliament. Not bad for a four hour slot on a Saturday.

BAB,when are you too old to be 'Bab'

It seems that 'Lovely' or 'My Lovely' is taking over from Bab although the plumber called me Bab the other day and I must be 20 years older than him!

    Post Office Wilton Road Erdington

Hi Viv, That's a really good plan. I was reading a poem the other day about the High Street in the 1920's which mentions all the shops and other buildings, some I recognise but many had gone by my time. I'm hoping to get a copy.
