    Driving in Days Gone By

There was also a “Disabled Driver, no Hand Signals” sign in some cars.

    Driving in Days Gone By

I was having a chat the other day about driving in days gone by. When I took my test, I had to do hand signals. I recall that in the Highway Code there were also illustrations of hand signals for people driving a horse and carriage, showing how you would signal your intentions with the whip...

    Computer help please 2025

Hi Pete Thanks for the system information. Unfortunately, now I have checked online, it cannot be updated to Windows. The two reasons are the CPU is Incompatible; you have an Intel Core i3-3240. Microsoft's Requirement: 8th Generation Intel Core or newer. TPM Version is Likely Insufficient...

    Computer help please 2025

Pete, I see its already operating in UEFI boot mode, but the BIOS is quite old. I would have a look to see if there is an updated BIOS file so you can install windows 11 before buying a new one.

    IN OUR GARDENS 2025

I built a bug hotel in my garden, a place for the predators to overwinter. It worked remarkably well! I was doing a bit of tidying around it and putting on a few more branches when I disturbed a wasp nest. I realized too late after getting stung on the hand then as they were all agitated...

Don’t chuck out a working PC if you can update it, it may only be the BIOS settings. Do you know the model of the Motherboard Pete. You can type System information into the search bar to find it.

BSA Norton Triumph Ariel and miscellaneous motorbikes and trikes

BMW made an engine for a scooter too, the Zündapp Bella, built like a tank with a dynastarter motor and 12v electrics. I had one for a while.

Microsoft are trying to make people do this and have just done an update that removed the registry features that enable running a windows 11 on a local account. There are ways to circumnavigate this but it’s a matter of choice. Without an account you do lose some security features, so I prefer...

    Lucas Sports Annual Event

I too vaguely remember the Lucas Sports Annual Event. I have a feeling a couple of the other main factories had an Annual Sports Event, I think GEC did too.

Your right it not. Linux is fine if you like that sort of thing, but it has limitations, as does the PC and the MAC. It does give a platform for the pantomime arguments to the ones that are capable of having an argument with themselves in an empty room. Such as the MAC v a PC or the Amega or a...

    Cadbury's Bournville Factory

There is a story I was told that women wore headscarves at work because of line shaft accidents. I did recall in the early 60’s seeing a factory where my grandmother worked with all that line shafting still in use

    School Dinners

I found school diner to be variable. My first school had a kitchen, but the food was tended to revolve around cabbage, carrots and sweed. Not much meat, very few chips and a lot of veg. My next school had food bought in in alloy insulated containers, it was quite dire and seems like it came...

Most certainly the unforgettable chocolate concrete, not my favourite. I liked the cornflake tart and rice pudding. They also did what we called frog spawn, was it tapioca?

    ERIC , cookie273 aged 95

That is sad news indeed. He was a very talented and prolific artist who painted numerous scenes in and around Birmingham. He would often paint the same location at different times, leaving us with a superb record of places and their social and seasonal changes. We are fortunate that Eric's...
