    IN OUR GARDENS 2025

I expect that like me, many will be glad that Spring has sprung and we are seeing signs of life on the dead wood. One thing I look forward to are all the contributions folk make on this thread, particularly all the photos. Sadly I am unable to put photos on because of the shakes. We have had a...

That's a great model of the Spitfire Morturn, What's the wingspan? Brings back memories of when I was in the RAF servicing a Seafire which was the navy version of the Spitfire. Wish I was still able to build Airfix models

1977 Silver Jubilee Street Party - Wadale Road, Northfield, Birmingham

I don't have any photos now but remember it well. We had a street party and had a visit from the Wombles. I made a large jar of "bubbly" out of wire mesh covered with paper and painted to fit our 8 year old daughter for the children's fancy dress competition which she won. I still have it in...

    Co.Op.number.

17-18-40 engrained on my memory as is my service number, particularly using it every Friday morning to get my 28 shillings, "2453082 Sir" Essential to remember DOB which I have to declare on every visit to the eye hospital. I try to forget it otherwise.

    IN OUR GARDEN 2024

I had a number of fences blown down in the last storm. I also wanted a new fence built across the width of the garden. The owner of the firm I use in Lichfield came last Monday and said he would fit me in when he could as they are booked up until next August. To ease matters I said I would...

Thank you for those photos Lyn, particularly the last one as I attended the Salvation Army 1957- 1958 before going into the Training College. So many lovely memories of the area and people. Park Benches

Morturn, The thought has come to me regarding your seat, about the possibility of getting some old oak furniture such as Wardrobe, Dresser etc from an auctioneer. such as Richard Winterton in Lichfield. Obviously it depends on length you want it and then of course transporting it home. But every...

    Renovating Stairs

Hi Alison, As far as stripping the paint off, whether by paint stripper or burning it off you will need a good scraper. I have just looked on line at B&Q and they have a great variety. You will need one where you can get into the corners easily. There is a 100mm steel floor scraper at £4.99 but...

    Does nobody die anymore?

Strange that Izzy brought this subject up as only few weeks ago I had similar discussion. Whilst I believe we should say things as they are we also have to consider the person to whom we are talking, considering their sensitivity. certainly to say someone has died, to me seems more 'brutal' than...
