Thank you for those photos Lyn, particularly the last one as I attended the Salvation Army 1957- 1958 before going into the Training College. So many lovely memories of the area and people. Park Benches

Morturn, The thought has come to me regarding your seat, about the possibility of getting some old oak furniture such as Wardrobe, Dresser etc from an auctioneer. such as Richard Winterton in Lichfield. Obviously it depends on length you want it and then of course transporting it home. But every...

    Renovating Stairs

Hi Alison, As far as stripping the paint off, whether by paint stripper or burning it off you will need a good scraper. I have just looked on line at B&Q and they have a great variety. You will need one where you can get into the corners easily. There is a 100mm steel floor scraper at £4.99 but...

    Does nobody die anymore?

Strange that Izzy brought this subject up as only few weeks ago I had similar discussion. Whilst I believe we should say things as they are we also have to consider the person to whom we are talking, considering their sensitivity. certainly to say someone has died, to me seems more 'brutal' than...

    Home made traditional food

That Granny cake looks delicious Steve. Do you have the recipe. I havn't done any baking for years. Long time ago I was teased to enter a Bero competition for Victoria Sponge. Never baked before. Twenty cakes entered and judges didn't know who entered each one. I won it and felt embarrassed...

Glad to see your Petunias have survived Steve, they look lovely. As far as your poppy seeds are concerned what do you do. We have a large red poppy which everyone admires but we [and a neighbour] have tried all ways to get new plants from the seeds without success

    Handsworth Golf Club

I belonged to Handsworth Rifle & Pistol club for a number of years until !957. We had a 100 yd rifle range which was situated on the edge of Handsworth Golf Club. Fortunately we were not hit by any of their golf balls and they were not hit by any of our bullets.

Maybe they are Alstroemeria but the leaves look too long to me. I have not grown them before but only last week bought three. I was amazed at how many varieties there are, but on Proctors Nursery list where we had ours from, they have over thirty varieties

    St Phillips Church Cathedral

Thanks for that Viv. My Nan was married there and I was just imagining the excitement that must have been in their hearts on that day walking into such a magnificent building. How I wish they had videos in those days so I could see all that took place

    Computer help

Thanks for your reply Morturn in #308. I did that a few months ago when I had another problem and had to leave the computer on all night for it to complete the operation and then told there was no problem. I wondered if it was more to do with Chrome Web Store wanting to keep a record of all I...
