OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

This may or may not be correct - my rather vague list states building in Fazeley Street, but no mention of it been a former Church - thats what it looks like . seems a hole has been knocked through the wall to make and entrance on the right had side - ( Shocking) but at least its still there. Like the cobbled surface to the entrance too.

Had a bit of a hunt to find this location but now I know where I am - the white building is 17 Legge Lane the building to the left of that is The Gwenda Works which was built in 1913 for Sir Henry Manton, silversmith and cut-glass manufacturer, this is the name above the door and it says they were established in 1834, . The road fronting this is really just a small alley that leads down to Carver Drive, the buidling to the left has now been demolished and a new building is been built on site.

We now move onto Roll 72 and something different to start and may be of use to someone although the information provided is a bit vague, with that I mean could be incorrect- just seems strange that his surname is Aston- could it be Frank from Aston ?!

My information reads Frank Aston sent home to his mom.

My information has this as the "Masons Pop building in Thimble Mill Lane", however a look at the Masons pop link on this forum and there is not a mention - is this correct or just an assumed link?

EDIT: I was totally wrong - this from Stokkie
Harry Mason (I can read his name on the picture) makes beer pumps and dispensing equipment. They are established for 60 years (or 200 years according to their own website!) Currently at 217 Thimble Mill Lane, Aston, Birmingham, B7 5HS.

We now hop across to the city centre this is the Spotted Dog Pub on the corner of Bordesley Street and Meriden Street, went in there a few time when on courses with the council at their office nearby. Still standing but completely painted over and is now a nightclub called suki10c

Titus set up in 1895.

We now move to Bishop Street and this fine building, not sure if it would have been for one business, so much going on - main delivery two smaller deliver doors, love the arched windows and that those on the top floor are smaller - also noted that the windows on the left hand side of the building are square, wonder why?

The second floor window has been replaced with a vast amount of newer brickwork, the 1st floor window has had the lintel replaced but there doesn't appear to be any signs that it was similar to the rest of the arched windows on that floor.

There was a building on the left as shown on the 1935 aerial view and ghost roofline on the street view. I thought perhaps there had been some bomb damage but on BARRA the bombing appears to be confined to another area of the street.

and now we move to Bissell Street and this fine building - unfortunately the images are difficult to get due to the size of the building so these are what we have, the building still exists as a restaurant but how much of the building is used I am not sure - love the name at the top of the building - the metal framed windows with opening windows within them too.

moving down Bissell Street and we come to Pig and Whistle - it seems to have doors bricked up and the only entrance is at the other end , like the bowed windows upstairs and surprising to see the mock tudor style in the inner city.
It was an M & B pub however a look on streetview has this as a Bankes pub and now re named " Catherine O'Donovan", but according to online sources seems to be closed.

Not sure when the photo was taken, but in 1973 it ( nos 111-119) was occupied by William Harvey & Co, ships lnternp makers, and W.T.George & Co, lamp manufacturers. In 1967 they were nxt door at 121-127, and G & J. Zair Ltd were occupying 111-117. They were remainders of a dying trade, whip makers

My notes have this as Old Stratford Place off the Moseley Road - tracked it down on streetview and it looks a loveley building set on an traffic like island, almost a rural view.
Sign on the front of the building have this as now part of Age UK ( Sandwell) - I am sure you all know of the building I never venture this far south so it is new to me .
