City Centre pubs

For the better Richard.
Family ancestors arrived here in Jonesborough in 1747 and my house is on land once owned by an ancestor.
Guess you could say I came home.
That is a wonderful story, welcome home! When I came to the US I settled in NJ. When we were married in 1969 we had an appointment in Wayne NJ, After Thanksgiving my new wife and I visited the Dey Mansion, pronounced Dye. Richard Dye was a general for Peter Stuyvesant who settled NYC when it was called New Amsterdam. Needless to say we were treated royally at the museum. A good story but not as good as yours, enjoy TN. We have lived in NJ, NY, OK, SC and NC but love TN.

Just after the end of lockdown I had occasion to visit the Bulls Head on the corner of Bishopsgate Street and Tennant St (now apparently closed as a pub according to streetview). It was then a "Davenports " pub. I s[pke to the publican an dm from what I remember it was a member of the Davenports family that was entering the business. I think they said that the beers were being brewed for them . Presumably this is the same organisation

I would think so Mike after having Davenports deliver my "Beer At Home" some years ago , I could never really take to the taste . My reasoning for that was I thought they could never put this on tap and expect it to sell

Davenport's Bath Row brewery ceased production in 1986. After its closure, the company was bought by the Highgate Brewery of Walsall, who brought the Davenport’s name back to life. This was short-lived as Highgate itself went into liquidation. The company along with the Davenport’s beer brands and recipes, ended up in the hands of Smethwick-based pub branch company, Global Star. They continue to offer a home delivery service. The Queens head has been open and operating as a "Davenports" pub for a good few years now: at least since 2010. This latest "reopening" is just an update of their décor to a new "British & Best" brand. - Their cask beers are quite good and its nice to find a pub selling a cask mild. Worth popping into if you are in town. If you are in that area can I recommend "The Good Intent" which has opened in the Great Western Arcade. - brilliant pub with a good range of cask beers. Unusual business model as all their profits go to charity - If you can get up the stairs with your pint to the balcony area overlooking the arcade you will be impressed.
