OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Now the world has quietened down after christmas I thought I would start posting some of the pictures I have been tidying up. They are a mix of old and new and due to a lot been pictures of pictures there is a chance of duplication - if this happens can you point it out and I will replace it hopefully with something a bit more unique.
The first selection from Roll 30 were taken in the 1990's of photos originally taken in 1964/65.

First we have the Crown Inn Cope Street, Ladywood, M & B pub with a nice street lamp on the corner, taken 29th September 1964, I assume a newsagents next door with the hoarding in front of the shop. On the corner of Springfield Street if I am reading it correctly.

Next we have St Pauls Tavern, I have posted an image of this pub but from the other direction, bit of a distant view but shows how it fitted into the street scene, much changed around there and now the area to be seen - if only by the youngsters!!

this is 43 Stour Street, Ladywood licensee Mary .... ? just cannot make it out - someone with the books may help here.
What interests me is the right hand side of the property - is this all the outdoor - there seems to be a number of windows and pipes suggesting a number of properties and what seems to be a large porch in the middle but to where?

I have thisphoto already, there dated 1964. However I am not sure where it is. It is not the one on Grange road. or Gt Lister or Temple row, There was one at 142 Sandpits, which would fit, but I do not have a photo to confirm. But it probably is that one

Steve. Can you check the writing on this one. going back to 1021 on kellys, I can find no mention of anything at no 43. But in the 1930s there was a beer retialer at no 47 , Walter James Sabell, the licence changing to Mrs Mary Eleanor sabell between the 1940 and 1943 editions. She remained there till some time between 1952 and 1955

But in the 1930s there was a beer retialer at no 47 , Walter James Sabell, the licence changing to Mrs Mary Eleanor sabell between the 1940 and 1943 editions. She remained there till some time between 1952 and 1955

So sorry - Quite clearly says 47 on my list and I cannot even find an excuse for the error. I have amended the details to 47, thanks Mike

After Lyns praises on the Cromwell Street outdoor here is a picture of the Cromwell Arms Cromwell Street, I have previously posted a version but this one is a better version - as said previously I have scanned a negative of photos of photos

We now move to 112 Phillip Street Aston and an outdoor but this does have the look of a shop about it - Pool Terrace on the wall, curtains on the door and a trapdoor for deliveries.

Quick update - I moved onto Roll 45 only to find a number of pictures I posted in 2023, however these are better copies so I have been replacing these and then hunting to check for duplicates so this next image is the next " new" photo I believe.

This is the Roebuck, Hollier Street and Darwin Street, M and B pub but in an unusual style for them?, Stone work on the ground floor then small bay windows with leaded glass on the first and small plain windows on the third floor. Interesting window styling on the property on the left and a small single storey building on the end.

Starting to look rather worse for wear and as if it is one of the last buildings in the area judging by the adjacent property this is the Anchor Inn, Benacre Street off Gooch Street, taken in 1950's. Not really sure if this was still open although it still has its windows and the large lamp outside , just next to the street lamp !!, bit of heavy boarding up next door too.

We now have another outdoor - this one seems to be still in use - it has a licensee board above the door - looks like Elizabeth Mullins. Location is given as 187 Francis Street and taken 3rd November 1963. Mitchell and Butlers wording on a painted background - was there a painted sign there in the past ? . Nothing else to suggest it was an outdoor but I assume if you lived in the area you knew where and what it was.

We now move onto Roll 4 first in a random selection of photos of photos was The Rock Cinema, taken in 1967, rather a " gritty " image - it may turn up on a later roll with a better image .
