St John Ambulance Brigade

I was a member of St.John Ambulance Yardley Quad division from 1992-2003, when Bob Grout was the member in Charge. The divisional ambulance call sign was KE119. I became and Ambulance Aider and was fortunate enough to crew the ambulance on many many duties including BCFC and AVFC, The Gradiators Granda TV show, also Athletics at Alexandra Stadium, also New Years on Broad Street, Party in the Park in Cannon Hill Park and Edgbaston Cricket Club, to name a few. I later became very proud to be Divisonal Superintendant (DS) of Yardley Quad until 2003.
If anyone has any photos from their SJA days, please share them, I unfortunately didnt have any photos from my SJA days.

I was a cadet from 68 - 73 at Sutton Coldfield (Duke St). My dad Ray was county Nursing Officer for West Mids in the late 70s and 80s, and my mum did the tapestry of the badge which used to hang in Lionel St.

Yes I wa cadet at Lionel St in the late 50's Dennis Timms was the Co I think Micky Brinton was a senior cadet , our meetings every Wednesday night I couldn't wait for the duties to be handed out so much so I got to see Lawrence of Arabia 7 times Barabass once The Longest Day Twice . These were all at at the Gaumont , we got a drink of pop free , unfortunately no hot dog which had recently been introduced to the cinema . I left in about 1961 without becoming a senior , great days though for a youngster

Can't tell from your picture lol, but if that's you Smithy then of course! A fabulous 7 years. I hope you are well? (I know we have a few groups in common on Facebook, and acknowledge each others posts, but don't really chat too much).

Do you have any memories of the SJAB who were based at Lionel Street in Birmingham.
As a cadet I remember marching through the city on our Annual Church Service complete with marching bands. That was very moving. My father was a County Staff Officer until 1965 when he retired. He was totally dedicated to the St Johns. He was responsible for starting the first Air Ambulances from Elmdon Airport with a De Havilland Rapide. He was also in the Rover Division in the 1950's and started up a cadet section in Sheldon in the early 1960's. The SJAB was so well supported that when there was a parade in London Hyde Park they would charter their own steam train complete with the 8 point star on the engine front to take the members to London.
Regards Ian.
I realise that this is an old post so I’m hoping that my comment is seen by someone.
I’m wondering if Yardley Division is still in operation? My Father was one of the founding cadets when his father started the Division, along with others, in the 40s. My father was Eric Giles and his father was Albert Giles.
My father went through the ranks and began a member of the County Staff (along with my Mother, apt, who he met at a St John Exhibition in the Town Hall in 1950. Both my parents were admitted to the Order as Serving Brother and Serving Sister in 1970 ( the first husband and wife pairing to have that honour).
Re the Air Ambulance from Elmdon, I have a photo of a training event with my father inside the plane unloading a ‘patient’ on a stretcher.
If anyone has any contact details for Yardley Division, I’d be grateful for them.
Many thanks.
