Nazareth House

Hi Anthony: The photo of Nazareth House at Rednal comes via the Images page accessed via Google - Nazareth House, Rednal being typed in for search. There are three photos at the very top of Nazareth House, the first being a much larger shot. There is a link to a web address on these photos.

My name is Patricia Bryan I was at Nazareth house in 58' for 5 years the only person I remember is Marian Dumbar, Do you remember us there was four of us Eileen, Kathleen, Maurine and myself pat?

Hey Angie, good info to go with the 1912 pic of Nazareth House - My mum was 3yrs in the Nursery in 1944 and unknown to her of course a baby brother also illegitimate awaiting adoption. We only welcomed him into our family after the secret veil was dropped 66 years later.
Apparently boys were more popular with adoptions so mum had to stay till they shipped her to Australia.
How long would they have stayed in Nursery for? 4/5yrs?
My Nan was here from around 1947- 1962 at Nazareth house

Walked pass the place for many years on the way to school then driving always looked creepy, we all knew about the place once in a while you would see kids getting walked up the Lickey road,. I remember girls walking on Longbridge Lane on the way there in a uniform from school, now thinking about it I have no idea from which school the uniform was cranberry in color there was not a whole bunch just a couple of groups may be 5 or 6 each ? .

Father Hudson's Homes migrated 132 children to Australia between 1947-1956.

39 of the 132 were from Nazareth House, and would likely go to the Sisters of Mercy or Sisters of Nazareth in South Australia, Victoria or New South Wales, or to the Salesains in Tasmania.

I was at nazareth house with my brother thomas about 1975/6... i was about 2/3..and my brother couple of years older.... i actually remember some stuff and it wasnt good..... if anyone has pictures please can you send me some.... its part of my past that keeps coming back....

My mother and her sister were put in Nazareth House year 1912 she did not tell us a lot about it. all she ever
said her grandmother visits them a lot has she said to make sure they did not send them to Australia, because
when I came here thats when she told me she may have been sent here. I am glad she was not sent here has
I would not have been here, but sad to say I left my mom and came to Australia .
Regards pommie

Hi my name is Peter Fullarton and Iv'e just joined the group, to my knowledge me and my twin brother John was there between 1950 and 1953 can anyone remember please. Regards Peter

Hi Tony... I was on the 4th floor.... l only remember I had charge of 4 little boys... two were twins.. not identical ... I often wonder what happened to some of the children...
As far as I heard after I left it stopped being a children home and it was a home for the elderly... then I heard they knocked it down... like you say tragic for such a building... I remember the huge big front door... and the dark wood downstairs do you remember any of the Sisters names?? the one I think of is Sister Alousious (I not sure of the spelling of her name) she was nice but sadly was sent off to Scotland .... I even went on holiday with them... it was to a place called Cliftonville by the seaside somewhere... kids loved it...
I will hunt out the photo I have for you tomorrow ... il be in touch again then..
I can understand your intrigue ... it was part of your life ... and such a building too..
Regards
Angie xx

Hi ! It was a Shetland pony called Christmas presented by Chipperfield Circus The Convent has since been demolished to make way for a new housing estate. My biggest regret was not taking any photos of the place.
The Donkey was called jessey, donated by Billy Smart Circus .
Geldrine Ross accepted him and he bit her.

So far the animal that grazed in the nazareh house field has been mentioned as being a Shetland pony and a donkey but our garden in tollhouse road had a clear view of the field. The animal in 1962 was a rather old horse and a vet was called to it when it was unable to stand up and we heard the shot as it's life was ended :worried: The horse had originaly been presented by Charlie Chester

Hi.

Lovely nostalgia thread about Nazareth House :)

I was born in 1966 and went to St Columba's school next to Nazareth House from 1970 with my sisters (Louise and Elizabeth) following me.

The first girl I ever "fell for" at the grand age of around 8 years old (1974??) was Tracy Devlin, one of two orphan sisters who were at Nazareth House - if you're around Tracy and sister I hope you both had happy lives and are still doing well - feel free to get me at bonker9999@gmail.com
