    Bartley Green.

Cheers Peter. I talked to my brothers about it today - They remember it as also being used as a scout hut in the 1960s and early 70s. - It may be that the Sunday school & scouts were linked since they remember the Akela of the scout group being also being a Vicar - Not sure if he was Vicar of St...

    Bartley Green.

Hi Peter - was it perhaps next to the Bartley Green football club building? - I seem to remember notices in front of it announcing Sunday School in the late 1960s - early 1970s. - The burnt-out shell of the building still stands beside the Football club building.- As seen in this Google Street...

    City Centre pubs

Davenport's Bath Row brewery ceased production in 1986. After its closure, the company was bought by the Highgate Brewery of Walsall, who brought the Davenport’s name back to life. This was short-lived as Highgate itself went into liquidation. The company along with the Davenport’s beer brands...

    Costermonger pub

Is that photo really of Priory Square? It looks more like the Cabin that used to be near the "carbunkle" Library - or was that "the Grapes?" Could be wrong. Edit - Disregard I'm getting mixed up! Edit 2 - Found "The Cabin" on Streetview - It ended up being called the "Hammer and Anvil" - the...

    Computer help please 2025

Unlike Canon and HP, Epson all-in-one printers and scanners should still continue to work as scanners, even when the ink has run out - However, It does need the ink cartridge to be installed, and it needs to be a "genuine" Epson print cartride -As per the information in this link below...

    Sir Oliver Edwin Simmonds

AH yes - Quite early in his career when he would have still been working for Supermarine - Brilliant bit of extra info. Thanks for that.

    Sir Oliver Edwin Simmonds

Cheers Mikejee - That story about him "assaulting" the kids was not something I was aware of - What date was that?

    Sir Oliver Edwin Simmonds

Cheers - As I said in my original post, back in 2023, I've trawled everything I can find on the internet (at least everything that isn't behind a paywall). Some of the stuff out there about him is inaccurate anyway. In my article you'll find a link to the Hansard website that records every...

    Sir Oliver Edwin Simmonds

Article written at long last- At the link below. If anyone has any other info on Sir Oliver Simmonds and his association with Birmingham, please get in touch. In particular it would be great to know what Birmingham companies subcontracted to produce goods for Simmonds Aerocessories...

    work on new street

Thanks for the posting. About time - The pedestrianised streets in Birmingham have become a real trip hazard in recent years - loose paving and dips in the surface where subsidence has occurred. High Street needs the same attention.

    Pollution monitoring

Update - It seems there is a wider grid of sensors run by "Earthsense" for the Council - Their sensors are much more widespread and include ones in Moseley, so I presume they are the ones you're seeing Superdad. Most of the sensors seem to be associated with schools- Sensor readouts and...

    Pollution monitoring

And they are! - Here's Birmingham's "Interactive Map" of Air Quality - I presume drawn from those sensors, although I can't see one for Moseley. The information seems to be pretty rudimentary! - Click on the "Birmingham" link below...

    Pollution monitoring

I presume its part of the scheme surrounding the Clean Air Zone charge for vehicles. I know they wanted to monitor if pollution shot up in areas outside the city centre if cars were detouring around the city to avoid paying the charge. Also, I presume they would consider extending the clean Air...

    Toy/Model Shops City Centre

Advert from 1944 for "Studette Handicrafts" of Kent Street, Birmingham 5, who made a range of "solid" model aircraft. They would have been non-flying models you were expected to whittle out of wooden blocks with accessories like propellers and landing gear.
