Thomas Wilkes - Grocer - Beech Lanes

Simon68

master brummie
Hi there,

Yet again I seem to be drawn to Birmingham tokens in my daily wheeling and dealing, probably, in my personal opinion, because Birmingham had the best engravers, medallists, diesinkers etc over the course of time.

Anyway, I now have this great 1 shilling token of Thomas Wilkes, a grocer, from Beech Lanes, which I can only track down to the Harborne area of Birmingham.

Would anyone be able to do a directory look up for this tradesman please.

Regards

Simon

Annie Wilkes, who appears to be the wife of Thomas above is listed at Beech Lanes on the 1921 census, she is listed as a shopkeeper. Beech Lanes is listed under Kings Norton/Smethwick which seems to cover a large area in 1921.
so it looks like the thomas wilkes on my 1901 is our man mark....great...could be thomas has died by 1921

Annie appears to be alone and listed as married.

Thomas appears to still be at Clark St listed as a grocer, also alone and married.

Thomas was still alive in 1939 (dies 1942), he is listed at 251 house and shop Hagley Road West, which I presume would have been the Beech Lanes address where Annie was in 1921.

He is with a daughter and a William Turner who she subsequently marries.
