Is This Your Motor?

Our first car Rover 12 1947 bought from a bomb site car dealer for £30 in 1961. Photographed outside our quarters Wash Brook Road, Ward End in the 60s. The only car I have ever made a profit on sold it for £35 two or three years later.

1546809791057.pngMy first car, in 1957, was one of these - a 1935 Austin 12. After a short while I went upmarket with a 1953 Austin A40. (The ones which bounced well ;))

It is indeed a Renault Dauphine. I had one for a short while, didn't like the light steering due to the engine being at the back!

Hi Everyone,
I have lots of photographs of cars in Brum's streets. I'll post a few and see how you like them. Maybe a forum member's old knacker might turn up - you never know! I'm not a car nut so perhaps somebody can post what they are for interest. To start with I think this photograph from 1958 may be a Ford Consul ....
And one from Worcester Street in 1957 ....

This one is a consul low line

Not a Silver Ghost, a 1928 Rolls Royce 20HP, that's me in the picture.

Photo was taken on the central reservation between Brooklyn Garage and Brooklyn Technical College.
Went to School with a lad who's Brother ran Brooklyn Garage his name was David Burrows. He spent a lot of his time repairing the headmasters car and I was extremely envious.

I was working at Brooklyn Garage when the photo was taken, 1960/61, there was a David there at the time but his surname was Lee, his brother Bernard was the workshop foreman, the Maybury family owned the garage and the land that Beeches Tech was built on. I left in September 1965 and set up my own business.

Would have been late fifties as I left Beeches rd in 1960, David was into everything but his surname was definitely Burrows. Presume Brooklyn Garage was on the left down the hill past the Tech ?

Nobody of that name when I worked there, I was there from 1959, the names I recall are Bernard and David Lee (both now deceased I'm told), Harold Bourne who served the forecourt and did the tyre work, Bob Powles mechanic, Nigel Bailey who married the bosses daughter.
The garage was directly opposite Beeches Tech. , I think it's still there but it's more than ten years since the last time I was in the locality. There's a 1971 photo on the net somewhere.

An Austin A30 parked up in Buckingham Street with a bunch of urchins wielding a brush. There is a boy with what looks like West Indian ethnicity which makes his family one of the early settlers in Birmingham. I wonder who he is and what life journey he has experienced. The kitten on the doorstep looks with some nervous anxiety, especially as a broom is being swung around!

agreed....the posts made on this thread are well within the title of the thread and who knows one of these days one of these old cars just may turn up

One of the joys of this thread is being reminded of the cars we used to see every day, some of which we have completely forgotten about, keep the pictures coming, how about some rarer ones, AC, Allard, Jensen, Chain gang Fraser Nash, no I never owned any of them, Dad's first car was a Morris Minor series M LOB 148.

Just picking up on Astoness's comment about being reminded of the cars we used to see every day. Maybe this one isn't so old but when I came across this beauty while paying a visit to Melletts Pub, Co Mayo in November last year it brought back memories of the 70's. The Pub Landlord is a auctioneer, estate agent, you name it and a bit of a collector. He recently bought this at auction in the UK and added it to his collection which he keeps at the back of the pub. He let me take a look and sit behind the wheel and it reminded me of when I passed my driving test in 1973. Being a qualified driver I was sent on an errand in the MDs new car. His was dark metallic blue with a 8 track stereo player with Bryan Ferry Roxy Music hits playing on perpetual replay. Having only ever driven a Ford Escort I felt like a king. The errand took longer than it should have as I took every detour possible to make the most of the experience. Then felt really stupid when I got stuck trying to get out of a tight spot as I couldn't find reverse gear. If only I'd realised that reverse was selected from a pull up switch on the gear selector stick! Can't wait for our next visit as the landlord has promised to take me for a spin!

Bob, I don't know if this counts as rare enough for you? I do not know the location but it looks like it is out in the suburbs. The images dates from 1955 if that helps.
