I would welcome any information about obtaining records of soldiers who were in the Southern Hospitals of Birmingham in 1917. My father returned to one from Mesopotamia in 1917 for his finally convelescance and treatment prior to returning to Dublin to be medically discharged. He had met my mother on a tram near Kings Norton and he returned to live in Pershore Road for six months until they were married in St Edwards Church Elmdon Road. I would be very interested to find out if any of his medical records can still be accesed and how to go about it. I now live in Australia

Thanks Mike McDonnell

You are probably going to be unlucky here. 90% of Great War hospital records were shredded by the National Archives. They still have the rest i.e. 10% of hospitals - try their web site for a list. If any survive they might include an admissions register.
