Getting Logged Out

Ive had to delete the thread, not sure what was wrong with it but the only thing i could do was delete the thread and ask the member to do it again.

Hi, after a week of just logging in without a problem I have needed to sign in a couple of times today. Seems to be something to do with Vivs posting on the "Artists who painted Birmingham" thread. Could this be?

I was logged out earlier today, and again just now even though I ticked the box to stay logged in.
It happened a few days ago too but I thought that was my broadband.

I can get the same condition in my laptop

but to get it I have to do the following ..
Make my online presence visible to non logged in visitors .... I usually have it set not visible.
Log in with my 'microsoft' account
Open my 'local' account but don't log in and I can see who is on line as the pic shows.
I have two accounts in my laptop 'local' and 'microsoft' and as you can see I can be logged in on one and not logged in on the other at the same time.
Maybe you are similarly logged in from another account.

The last time I had a problem like this it was the thread I was on - Warren sorted it. Does it only happen after you have visited a certain thread?

just tried a few times and i seem to be staying logged in...not that its much of a problem if i dont as i usually log out anyway

I haven't been logged out today, it seems OK again.
I always log in and out every time I "visit".
My name used to stay in the box too when it happened, I wasn't just on one thread.
rosie.

There seems to be some inconsistency with regard to this problem. For days I have stayed logged in via iPad/Safari. Now, today, I have had to log back in a couple times - which is back to where it was a couple of weeks ago. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to all this. (No experience with IE etc recently as I am away).

Not a major problem, just mildly inconvenient - and mystifying!

I was logged out again just now as I was looking at "New Posts" as I do every day.
I also had ticked the box to stay logged in case it happened!!

Do you log on from a favourites bar? If so then try logging out and then deleting your internet history for the period you have been getting logged out. Then click on BHF and log in again and ask it to remember you. It may be taking you to the page where you were logged out - no I don't understand it either it is just something I had to do before!

I think there might be a problem connected with https and https

https forum.
I signed in and Forums page appeared.
I did a search for stevens - titles only
Got 'Search Results for Query': stevens
Clicked on 'Stevens Bar' and Stevens Bar thread appeared.
In post#5 I clicked on an internal forum link
The link took me to thread 'Pubs and Inns of Bull Ring and Market areas from 1940s' all ok.
Back to Forums page and I was still logged in.

Perhaps someone else can try these procedures just in case it is my setup using Windows 10 and Chrome although I do get the same with iPad using either Safari or Chrome.

I had noticed this some time ago and now always use the https version because I want the many old links to work.

I don't find logging in and out any great problem and until about three years ago I always logged out before shutting down my computer and then logged in when I started up .... :)

Just to clarify, I become logged out mid-session and not by choice!
I always log in and out normally "before and after" and that's not the problem.
I am using the new https but I don't know what that means!!
rosie.

I got logged out mid session and when I checked it was always the same thread so I got Warren to check it. The thread was the problem. I think "https" is just the new version of the site after the upgrades Warren did.

As I showed in post#51, when I used https I got logged out mid session because I did a search which found a forum link created before the https version appeared. All forum links created before the https version point to the https version.
The https generally means what is going to and from you to the forum is encrypted, with https it is not. I use https for internet banking and email etc but am quite happy to use https for the forum because what I post can be read by anyone, it does not need to be encrypted.

I've just checked a lot of other well known forums and they use https. I suppose it is a matter of personal choice.

This is the link I use to open the forum

I got logged out by simply going on a thread and then back to "forums". I didn't even click on anything. It was the Birmingham Improvements - oldMohawk had a post he had put "image only visible if logged in" - I was logged in until I left the thread but could not see the image. All other threads seemed fine.

Hi Janice, the image in my post#3 of the 'Birmingham Road Improvements Over The Years' is a link to an image I posted in another thread. I do this to save space on the forum server by not posting a duplicate of images I have already posted, in fact I have linked to hundreds of forum images over the years to save posting duplicates. I often link to other member's forum images to avoid posting duplicates.

I have just logged into the https version and I cannot see the image but I can see the image when I log into the https version. The reason is because my original image was posted when the forum was only https. The actual image address is as shown below ...

Rather worrying !

Hi Janice,
I've just been testing logged in to https and find if I do a search for a thread ie: 'Search titles only' I was immediately logged out. Other random logouts with no discernible pattern ... using the forum normally and then wondering why something is not working and find I am logged out.
I'm getting the same as you with https - totally random log outs.
With https connection everything is stable.
