County Court, Corporation Street

Dennis Williams

Gone but not forgotten
Not terribly interesting, but has anyone any idea about the current functionality this lovely old building, still standing proudly in Corporation Street, but not having any perceivable use to this boy ? It has 'County Court' as a frieze....and no doubt when built in 1880 by James Williamson, was summat to be taken seriously as a ?Court?....it is Grade 2 listed I believe......but it seems a bit sad and lonely now....surely deserves to be an important place, with an important function?

What does the county court do? Cases are normally heard at the court having jurisdiction over the area where the claimant lives. Most matters are decided by a district judge or circuit judge sitting alone. ... In debt cases, the aim of a claimant taking County Court action against a defendant is to secure a County Court judgment.

One small correction needed to that, the defendant can ask for the case to be heard in his/her nearest court, often used to frustrate a claim if it's too distant for the claimant (plaintiff).

As to the original question a lot of those places have been done away with...to save money :(, the Gloucester one still survives.

Hi Guys
Just b elisebeth courts een readin about the county courts and people asking the question what are they actualy doing
Well i can tell you yes they are very old and falling apart inside that building and i had the unfortunatly moment
Of Attending there for a crimminal case agaist a person whom was arrested and was remanded in a phsyco hospital
And brought back to court for having a gun as a weapon and threatened a lady in a car with a child to take her car
Much to my surprize i originaly went to the queen victoria courts but when asking for the court room for the trial i was told its over the rooad t the old county courts so i went across and by golly it was in a terrible state of disrepair
And inside there was a couple of rooms operating for crimms i actualy listened to one of the major case of the child porn
Shit i do not need to mention the names as there was a gang of themthey have of all been sentenced foor long periods
I eventualy found the court room i wanted and in the room it was kitted out just lke the ones in the quens court
where they bring the crimms up the steps from the steel house lane lock ups and encased in a enloseure framed glass box
when sentenced they go down the steps back under ground to steel house lock up which is the queenelisebeth
courts and loaded into the vans they also have the on screen from the prison to tele save brimng the remands to courts
Thats how i know they are useing it as the over spill courts for criminalls and they county courts of original like our friend says they have been moved
