Can anyone recognise where & when this super tram photo was taken?

There's a clue behind the tram looks like William Maddox was the licensee of the pub/outdoor.

Can anybody here help him?

There's a William Maddox that appears to be listed at The Lamp Tavern, Barford St on the 1939 register,
There's also a William Maddox Beer Retailer at 183 Icknield Port Road, in the 1930 Kelly's
BUT my thoughts were that the photo is more in the 1914-18 era
 
brilliant photo wherever it was taken and the pub/outdoor certainly looks small enough to be the lamp tavern which is apparently the smallest pub in birmingham and most importantly still up and running and doing very well i believe..
