Adopted 'Tammie'
When we had our first 'Wireless' it was a 'Cossor', anyone remember that make, their adverts used to say "As fitted on the Queen Mary" !! it required a 'High Tension' (HT) battery and a smaller one,I can't remember it's name, and what had to be changed and re-charged regularly --- an 'Accumulator'. This was my job as a lad to take to the 'Radio Shop' in Bracebridge Street, you needed two, one in the 'Wireless' and one on charge, otherwise the 'Wireless' wouldn't work. well one winters day snow lay on the ground, and on turning the corner from Miller Street into Bracebridge Street --Whoops, I went on my back and the accumulator (made of glass) went up in the air, it smashed completely and as money was short it was a long time before the 'Wireless' worked again, my stepfather was'nt pleased he missed the football results on a Saturday evening!
