Id love to be able to contribute more with facts, stories & photos, however I'm struggling to find out any information on William Lysons. service number 25455. He was born in 1898 in Madeley, Shropshire. He died on 21 September 1918 in France age of 20 and buried in Lapugnoy, Pas-de-Calais, France. Does anyone have any details or point me in the right direction, as I'm running out of ideas. Thanks.

What details are you looking for?

His service record doesn't seem to have survived. He has a MRIC and an entry in the Register of Soldiers' Effects. He received the Victory & British medals.

William's father was Herbert Lysons. According to the 1891 Census William Lysons (54) was his grandfather.
Herbert had a sister Alice Mary Lysons who lost a baby under tragic circumstances in 1904.

Does that say his pension was paid to an Edith E Dutson?

She was possibly an Edith Emily Dutson b1897 Dudley who married a Percy Rowes in Bham 1924.

I wonder is she and William were sweethearts.

I hope I can copy and paste the war diary for this period. Here goes...

Wow that's a great bit of info and very Interesting. May i ask how you get this info as I have another ancestry lost in we1 and a grand uncle in ww2.
Some abbreviations used above:
Coys companies
LG Lewis Gun
ORs other ranks
Bn or Bttn battalion
That's helpful thank you.

Hey MWS.
I'm after any info really. I don't know what an MRIC is and didn't know he received with victory and British medals. I'll have to look up what these are issued for. Thank you.
There is a pension ledger but you need to register with and subscribe to Fold3 to read it.
View attachment 189972

MRIC are the Medal Roll Index Cards which list the medals each soldier is entitled to. Thay are on Ancestry but the Fold3 (which is Ancestry owned but separate) site for all military records also has them plus other info. I used it recently and it is around £8 to £9 for a month - just make sure you cancel renewal before the month is up.
Confusingly it used to be Forces War Records

Confusingly it used to be Forces War Records
Great thank you.

Wow that's a great bit of info and very Interesting. May i ask how you get this info as I have another ancestry lost in we1 and a grand uncle in ww2. Thank you so much.
The War Diaries are held at The National Archives and are fairly easy to locate if you have the Regiment and Battalion information
