Is This Your Motor?

Back in late 1978 I ordered a new Ford Escort 1600 Sport from Mottershed & Smith, Soho Road Handsworth . That was the performance Escort below the RS2000. No sooner had I placed the order, the Ford workforce went on one of their longest ever strikes. After a 6 months delay I cancelled the order and bought an Alfa Romeo Alfasud 1.5 from Hawthorn Garage in Streetly.
The 1970’s the decade of strikes.
I remember Mottershed & Smith on Soho Rd. Never bought anything from them.

some one gave me a fiat Supermirafiori what a rot box but sure did drive well, after having a good play with it i took it apart and transplanted the power unit (2000cc twin-cam engine) and gearbox into a escort mk2 shell .. now that was a machine:grinning:

its got as much style i thought as my shed

i remember that most cars i owned were put together by me all built out of bits and bobs of other cars from scrap yards and brakers.
we cant do that now the insurance ask "is the modified in any way?.. just amagine saying yes the body is from one car the engine is from another seats from a later model bonnet and boot from another car and the wheels off another car. they would say sorry we cant insure you or GET OUT

That's one scam which is less likely to happen now, two bits of cars welded together or a car made from "ALL SPARE PARTS"

as aslong as its a full body shell logbook it was ok i built a few for rally and hednesfed raceway all my road cars was stripped and engine rebult and every part cleaned replaced if dodgy. after the test it went for engineers report. my ford escort was a rebuit shell with twincam engine ford 2000 box capri suspention janspeed exhaust and twin 40 dcoe webbers. .......................................i never weld and two cars together

Those instructions would be very useful today!

I could do with one of those Jonob, though looking at the size of the fuel tank, and the capacity of the engine, I suspect that I might have to refuel very frequently

and finally for this evening ....

Two Ford 8 Model 7Y, 1937+. Facing away is DeLuxe model, steel spare wheel cover and running boards, facing camera is Standard model, no running boards. In the side street, a 30s Rover, I think, unless it’s a Bentley, but no flying “B” on the radiator cap. At the back of the picture, 1939 Morris Ten, Series M.

Thanks [yet again] for your help John - much appreciated
