Plea for jobs in bid to rescue firms
Evening Mail Reporter
A PLEA to save workers' jobs at troubled Bearbrand Nylons was being made by a Birmingham shop steward in talks in London today.
Union leaders launching a rescue bid to turn the ailing company into a workers' cooperative, were meeting with Bearbrand's appointed receiver to discuss new cash problems.
Birmingham manager, Mr. Henri Koundou, factory chairman of a shop managers' committee, was taking part in the talks.
The workers' £2,000,000 to save 2,400 jobs in three factories — is made up of £1,500,000 they hope to get from merchant banks and £500,000 they will seek from the Government.
