Birmingham City Hospital officially closed Nov 2024

Thanks for all that work Janice. Quite a slog.

Well, there was obviously something very wrong when the 'archway' was removed/vandalised/demolished. Thankfully the front of the Infirmary has been spared. I take it this is the Nurses Home wings referred to. And are the buildings - blue dots - those that will be preserved ? We have some photos posted by zero I think.

Unfortunately it will be demolished. It was derelict for years.
It's the one in posts #61 and #116

Thanks zero.

Solid structures. Pity the buildings are going. In the bigger picture, and in the interests of preserving resources, you'd think the shell of the building could have been saved. Surely it would have lent itself to becoming apartments (and with historical interest). Am I surprised they're about to be demolished ..... no.

It is such a sad loss of history. When I was walking through this and the other nurses home, it was like I was taking a step back in time to the early 1900's. You could still feel it in the air.
This was the entrance to the nurses home via the hospital basement.IMG_20241204_142509 (2k).jpg

I'm planning to get onsite during the last week of October to get better pics.
They are still clearing asbestos on some sections of the site, so they won't allow me in sooner.
The old boys school should still be there.

Pic #2 is the infirmary, this is the section that will remain. The photo is the right side of the building.
Pic #3 is the main block.
