Pinfolds and Pounds of Birmingham and its suburbs

That would mean there were two animal pounds in the Perry Barr area; one at Perry Village and another one mentioned in post #32. If this one was near the tollgate, it must have been somewhere off the Birchfield Road.

Seems highly likely Neil. I notice a PDSA hospital not far away, south of Pound Road. It could just be a coincidence, but perhaps there's a history linking the pet hospital to animal shelters. Animal shelters like dogs homes for strays effectively replaced some pinfolds and pounds in modern times.

isnt this the original crown and cushion pub with wellington road to the left..i could be wrong but i think there was a tollgate just by the pub..i will have a look on the crown and cushion thread sure there is a photo of the tollgate..
