I may have some members disagree with me but I still think it's a cheap and nasty monstrosity, sort of thing you would expect to see in a fairground, like so much of Birmingham's so-called 'modern art' . Apologies to members with a different view but I had to say it. I thought the same about that other fibre glass 'work of art' placed in centurian square (I believe some one set fire to it). Eric

I never saw it, but don't personally have a high opinion of it. But , of course, for some of those that did see it, it reminds them of pleasant memories

I do know what you mean Cookie, although I am quite fond of him myself.
Maybe if Birmingham had not lost him we wouldn't feel the same affection!

I believe after it was removed from Manzoni gardens, it went on display at a second hand car dealers owned by one of the Fewtrells on the Stratford Road in Sparkbrook.

It did, the car dealer was called "King Kong Kar Ko" it was just up by the redundant church

You were right in your thoughts, I found them neither use nor ornament

I agree. He was a bit naff and more suited to advertising than pretending to be art.
Ozzy the mechanical bull at New street Station though is a much better piece to represent Brum. In my opinion.

Originally i'm sure it was. Thing is, I suppose, "artists" can copy anything and say it is art, and some (a lot) of idiots pay enormous sums for it. For example Warhol's Heinz soup cans

I remember it well when it was first on show , I personally thought it looked ridiculous just standing there with it's hands spread doing actually Zilch. At least with a statueit has history a sense of purpose .
