This is a photo of the Coronation Party in June 1953 this was held in the Dean Street youth club and the people attending are from Skinner Lane and Skinner Street. Let me know if you spot any family. Dean Street youth club was at the bottom end of Skinner Lane (opposite end to the shop)

I don't know the location of this street, but I expect it was cleared away as it was condemned housing at the time of this photo. Mr Faulkner was obviously a resourceful gardener and you can imagine the joy he gained from cultivating the space,

That's my grandfather who I never met. It was in the corner of the courtyard that was enclosed by Skinner Street and Dean Street. My grandmother outlived him by many years and passed away in 1955.

The photo has come as quite a shock to me as I've never seen a photo of him before.

Thanks Viv.

viv we have a thread for skinner lane but the thread name needs changing to skinner st so i will go and do that now..i will also post clives photo of his grandad on that thread..

clive what a find you must be delighted..i think if you went to birmingham library and looked at the actually newspaper the photo could be clearer be nice to frame it..providing they have the despatch papers it should be easy as you have the date of publication

Hi Lyn.

I'm over the moon. I had no information of my grandfather. As is usual in previous generations, not so much info was passed down. My siblings and I were weekly visitors to that house along with my parents. It was my dad 's father and I can't ever remember reference to him. In number 18 Skinner Street lived my gran and dad's sister and her husband and next door at number 17, dad's other sister and her husband. I'm sure my grandfather must have passed away between the years of that photo and my birth in 1945. They were all hard working and good living folk and I have fond memories of them. This latest photo has completed the picture for me. It was an unusual way to find out but, in a way has created another story to pass on to our offspring.

All of that info is correct Lyn. George was my father (1913-2000). His sister's maiden names were Callaghan. I now know when my grandfather passed away.

With reference to Viv's initial post, the houses in Skinner Street survived until 1966 when they were demolished to accommodate the 2nd generation wholesale markets.

Thanks again for your help and input.

Clive

clive in case you do not know walter is buried at witton...would you like me to post the 1921 census ? as it contains more info such as where people worked which is very interesting to know..i think one of the step sisters worked for kunzles in broad st

Hi Lyn

Thanks for this electoral role. I'll spend some time examining it as there are things I still don't know.

Much appreciated,

Clive
