Hi
Does anyone remember L&E Motors (Motor engineers) or anyone who worked there. Their premises were 366 Stratford Rd and 1a Poplar Rd. Sparkhill. I understand they were also connected with the aquatic trade.
The propriorter was L.Eason.

Hi Tali

I think L&E Motors were in Stratford Rd from 1943 to 1952.
I am trying to trace the history of my Norton that was first delivered to them there in 1948.

Oh well before my time :(.I remember in mid 70s it was called P Nagy and Son's and was run by a characterful turban wearing Sikh gentleman in his open top Triumph TR6.Many years later the premises were bought and used as an extension by the nearby Dental Surgery.

Thanks for your input tali. but i need to go back to when the premises was used for the motor trade and hopfully get a lead from there.

i was wondering how many members drive a SUV
My preferred style of transport. I think mine would be (s)UV though.

4 x Range Rover Classic. (Not all at the same time).
Land Rover Series 3.
Old style Disco.

Changed from LR roughly when we moved over here, because LR spare parts here are like hens teeth and most require a mortgage. I have a full set of original Range Rover wheel nuts, and I am holding on to them as an investment.

Isuzu Trooper.
Toyota Landcruiser. (Current).
4x4 Toyota RAV. Also current, probably the only one that qualifies as SUV.

The Duster is popular over here, because of the Renault connections. A few 4x4 but mostly 2 WD. I have also seen a few of the electric Springs about, but not common yet.

Andrew.

Can I just expand this thread to other modes of transport, as I've never really been a car driver. (I have owned them though)
Van driver, yes.(motorbikes are for a different thread).
I remember starting work at the council, in 1967, and being allowed ( at only 15) to drive the J4 vans around the depot to fill up with fuel. That stays with you forever. At 73, I have a VW transport van, and still struggle to drive my wife's car, to fill it up with diesel. I'm such a dope:yum

My wife chose a Skoda Karoq for our current car. Petrol, Automatic. I switched to automatic cars a few years back & would never buy a manual box again. Automatics have come a long way in recent years & are brilliant. BMW, AUDI, MERCEDES, GOLF are often driven by selfish people who think they are the elite. ( Some are driven by nice people )

Bought my first Automatic in 1972 and never changed since. Only ever had one go wrong and that wasn't major.
Been driving since 1956 and sadly just given up. So glad I taught my wife to drive. Wonder how many miles I had done.

I had a Toyota Sequoia as a company car around 2004, ran the wheels off that thing. At 225,000 we auctioned it off to employees. My personal preference are Honda products with Toyota a close second. I have had BMW, Audi and American cars, all are disappointing when the new wears off!

I think that is a good choice, Skoda is owned by VW group who does a very good job on their vehicles particularly with the automatics. Automatics have come a long way as you suggest from the old three speeds. The new CVTs are excellent, our cars have 10 speed automatics and are wonderful. I loved the manual gear box in my BMW, 2002 tii ( wish I still had that car but the rust took over)!

We had a 2cv yonks ago, I think thats why auto gearboxes came in:D. the gears and their positions were something special. Ok once you got used to them, but you really had to get used to them:D

.....and then there was the Standard Pennant, I had, that was semi auto, there was a button on the gear stick, that you pressed to change gear. Weird or what?:innocent:

Sad to say, but most things Japanese, are better manufactured, in the motorworld

j4 brilliant i had one and went on to the face lift the sherpa van

November 2024 Federal Gov under Biden announce 6 billion dollar loan for Rivian factory.
Unfortunately if the loan went through it would barely cover the operating losses. There are some investors already jumping ship.
If you look at Stelantis, a European company you will see two or three of their brands disappear in 2025/26. There are just too many brands. (Sorry off topic)

Have you seen the new vans from Maxus. The Chinese took all the Sherpa plans from LDV when it collapsed upgraded them and are importing them to the UK.
