BAB,when are you too old to be 'Bab'

People always seem to call me bab even younger people,and i only just realized i call most family members who are younger than me,babe,and my husband.
 
You are probabley right bab...there was a great mob of us cousins from the old end and May and myself are the only ones in regular contact.
 
Being the youngest in the family I was called the 'babbit'

my dads sayings where, oh well! this wont get the babby a new bonnet, (when getting ready to work) and "if theres enough blue in the sky, to make the babby a pair of trousers, itll be a nice day" dear old dad!
 
I am 66 and my uncle still calls me bab it makes you feel a little bit special somehowm altho my daughter threatened me never to call her little ones babby or bab so I call them precious or sweetheart, cos they are.
 
Bab Is nice, babe is what I hate, cant stand it, i could scream when i hear some one say "alright babe" i wont go on I can feel myself getting angry just thinking about it
 
Resurrecting an old thread to say: I'm worried bab is dying out! Please tell me it's only being replaced by Love in the south of town? I live away and nearly cry when I come back and get called bab, but only younger people from the black country side seem to use it now [sobs]. Am I imagining this?

I can't answer your question as I live in London now but I remember being in Brum, visiting my late parents about 12 years ago and a Big Issue seller called me Bab, it was so nice!

I also love the term "Bab". My Nan used it and we all use it now, regardless of age, it is timeless! It makes me feel a true Brummie!
 
I have never thought about this till I saw this post. I have called my daughters Bab since they were born, they are both in there fifties now and I still call them Bab. I don't know how they feel about this but they are coming to visit today so I will ask them.
 
calling someone “bab,” it’s a informal way of saying “babe” or “baby.” It’s a bit of a shorthand, but still affectionate. People use it with their significant others, close friends, or sometimes even in playful teasing. It's kind of a personalized way of showing affection.
saying it now to a person could now get you in a lot of trouble more way's than one
 
My Aston friend always calls me Bab I call her mo Wench which she thinks is hilarious. . Two others not Brummies call me Me Babby. a Coventry Irish lad always says bab. My stepdaughter's ex a Coventry kid called her Pab. I get called, Babe. I used to be Boo Boo to a Centenarian French/Armenian lady - not Boo Boo as in Yogi Bear and Boo Boo, but BooBooooo if you know what I mean. I think here it was me duck like in Leicester. It was very cosmopolitan at work, hen, chuck, duck, Duckie. Ah well. Its what makes the world go round.
