ERDINGTON BRANCH ASW

RPRICE

Brummie babby
Hi

Pleased to have joined your forum

Can anyone tell me what the ERDINGTON BRANCH ASW is/was?, researching a chap from 1921

Regards Rob

Sorry meant to add he was the treasurer of this ASW and is described in other records as a Carpenter

Not much but hope someone recognises what ASW was

Hi, thanks to everyone for the suggestions, I think Amalgamated Society ofWoodworkers is a very good shout

Much appreciated

Rob

Warwick University has the records of a Birmingham branch of the organisation. Maybe they mention erdington branch

I had at first thought, might the SW refer to Six Ways (Erdington)? The only names linked with Birmingham or Aston (in the case of the 2nd & 3rd named) for the the Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers since it was formed (after the amalgamation of The Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners & The General Union of Carpenters and Joiners in 1921) are B. Maddox (Council Member 1937-), J Chew (Chairman 1921-23 & 27-28) and HJ Sheasby (General Councilman 1929-35). ASW Treasurers were not listed. An ASW members certificate and 50 years membership badge is shown below:

Dry interesting thank you guys. I interrogated the Warwick uni archive and they have ASW records that have gone to FMP. Unfortunately I don’t subscribe but it appears these records contain reasonable biographical info

Very good point, well made I started off wanting to find out what ASW is and thought I could make my own way then. But it has not panned out that way so yes. His name is William Thomas CAVE. Sorry bout that

There are a number of "trade union records" which name William T Cave on FMP.
I can see but not access as I don't use FMP
