In post 9 , the outdoor in emily St, the note under the photo is interesting . Have played with it. the Outdoor was no 137, and was closed for trading outside licensing hours in 1955. Kellys states that in 1955 it was run by McLauchlin Mrs. Ellen Blanche, beer retlr, so it was probably her that was a naughty girl.

this one i find most interesting...on the back of the photo it reads this old building was once a pub called the albion tavern it is at the juction of liverpool st and adderley st..dated 1989..

I don't think this was the Dolphin on the Coventry Road, but rather a cafe in Coventry Street. See recent pic.

Have fiddled again with label below post 10 in stoke st. It was no 17 Stoke st , and again the licence was surrendered for trading after hours in 1957. Kellys shows it run in 1955 by Mrs. Susan Ethel Neale

Do you mean it is NOW the Dolphin cafe, because , if so, then it can't be the same pub, as the Dolphin pub was on the corner of New Bond St, which, ;ooking at google, is grass and a few odd modern buildings

my post 25 of the dolphin cafe...the person who took the pic wrote on the back that he thought it used to be the dolphin pub in the 60s...he also had the location down as coventry road but as beamish pointed out the dolphin cafe in on the corner of coventry street..

Hi Lyn just caught up with this thread been out all day great stuff. Beamish is correct in his location of the Dolphin Inn on the corner of Coventry St and Meridan St Digbeth it later became a transport cafe that did bed and breakfast after the war. Dek

hi dek so the pic on post 25 of the dolphin caft used to be the dolphin inn as is written on the back of the photo..just the location was wrong then as its coventry st not road...

In post 29 . there are two addresses in Friston st in 1955 listed as beer retailers:

68 Barraclough Mrs. Eliz.beer retlr. (off)
94 Giffard Mrs. Sarah, beer retlr
However, no 68 specifically states off licence, so it is reasonable to assume other is a pub, and no 68 is in the photo, this is confirmed by the map, where 68 is in red, 94 in blue, and 94 has a building to the left of it.

Hi mikejee,

You are quite correct, the Dolphin was on the corner of New Bond Street and the Coventry Road. The cafe referred to (Eastside Cafe) is on the Corner of Coventry Street and Meriden Street. Whether it has always been a cafe or a public house in the past I don't know. The address is 99 Coventry Street, so maybe you are able to check businesses that formerly occupied the premises through earlier directories.
