Birmingham buses

Birmingham CT 2799, JOJ799, a Daimler CVG6 with Crossley H30/25R body of 1952, on the route from Hamstead to Yardley. Len.
 
Nice lencops :) looks like it was taken at the top of Hamstead Road
about to cross Villa Road , but i could be wrong .

Hi everyone. Ref post no 483 Lencops. I had the numberplate off this Daimler JOJ 799 for many years. I gave it to my friend Bob Shaw a few weeks ago. He owns several ex. Birmingham buses and we are soon to start work on restoration of JOJ 847 the one with the platform doors!
 
Last month former Birmingham Crossley 2489, which is preserved and has been since 1969, won the Shillibeer Award for the best Preserved bus at the Showbus 2009 rally at Duxford.
 
Yes I believe it is, Bill. I didn't know when it was posted, but someone has told me that it's just up the hill from the garage.
 
Thanks for that, Dave M. They were Metro-Cammell / Leyland chassisless 'Olympic' export models, built for Cuba and South America at the Elmdon factory, now the site of the NEC. Amazingly one (at least) was still running in 2006, see this webpage. (scroll down it a little).
They carried "El Omnibus Engles Leyland" badges. (= Leyland bus from England)
 
Turning the clock back to 1933, this picture (composed from two stills from another Pathe film depicting the popularity of cycling) has a 1920s Associated Daimler working into city on the Sandon Road 6 route, and a 1930 AEC Regent working outbound on a Portland Road 7 journey, both being held by a point duty constable in Victoria Square to let the cyclists pass.
 
Can anyone remember the Harding brothers from Franchise street who were either drivers or conductors?. The one was Bernard.
