Hi Alf had forgotten about that book it was one of my favourites as a child :)also the water babies :)anyone remember that

My old English tutor used to refer to 'The Wind In The Willows' as upper-class English elitism. Well, up his!!

I've got a very old edition with all the original illustrations by E H Sheppard, and I still read it maybe once a year. Like many such works of literature, I really think it's best left to one's imagination to visualise the characters and the scenes - personally, I thought the Matt Lucas version was dreadful. The best I recall was the David Jason (as Toad) production of a good few many years ago.

Hello Alf, I kept my Wind In The Willows from 1942 and finally passed it on to my little grandaughters this year.I have always loved the story..I even named my house Toad Hall....Sometimes I think that I married Mr Toad....since my husband has a mind of his own and follows his dreams where ever they lead. Like Mr Toad he is heedless when he drives.:) Thank you for the movie. Regards, Joanne:)

Sounds a lot like myself most folks say, well in this house they do Joanne:)

Always loved the story and one of the first local plays I went to see as a young child was "Toad of Toad Hall"...just great. I like the TV adaptations as well with voice overs - David Jason as Toad. Ian Carmichael as Rat, Richard Pearson as Mole and Michael Hordern as Badger. Such lovely memories.
