Alf, Liked the Spam that came from USA during the war years and after, when it was made over here i went right off it and have never eaten it since. Len.
 
We used to have Spam fritters in our house during the War - Spam dipped in batter and fried. It was quite nice, but must admit I have never eaten it since then. Judy
 
Our local chip shop hasstarted doing a spam fritter at 90p very nice but a bit greasy.
 
Back in the 70s, someone at work was in digs, he told the land lady that he did not like Spam, and over and over she made up sarnies of Spam, he used to open up the sarnies and sling it up to the ceiling where it stuck, it gave us a laugh, Len you look well on it

I've always loved Spam and still do!

Put a few slices of Spam in the bottom of a non stick Spam frying pan, on top of the Spam break open two eggs, no need for grease or oil there's enough Spam grease in the Spam. Fry until the Spam is brown then Spam the whole lot onto a Spam plate and Spam the whole lot down your Spam entrance.With Spam of course.

Alf, the best Spam ever in your MP clip!!! Belgian TV are at this Spamming moment repeating all the MP episodes on a Thursday evening, best night of the week for Spamming. LOL.

Dave, Thats the second reference you have made about how i look, do you like Spam?, if you do i bet it gets mixed up with your beard!!, if you tried to look like Captain Mainering you would never make it!!. Len.
 
Len have not had Spam for a long time might try it again, like corned beef Dave never could make Captain
 
During the wartime WW2 ,we did have spam from the USA
I found that was alright,But recently tried it,and it was terrible NO more for me thank you
 
When I was a bambino in the 1950's I absolutely loved Spam, even though my mother was always embarrassed to ask for it (at Sam Poulter's butcher-shop on The Broadway, Perry Barr). Mr P would slice it from a great long roll, and I always asked for it as thick as possible! If memory serves me correct, Spam in those days was quite spicy in comparison to the modern product (which I think only comes in tins). One of my ideas of Heaven is a sandwich of Spam, Branston Pickle and crusty bread....oooh!

Big Gee, here we still get big rolls of spam in all flavours and mixtures, nothing mean about it here and it sells well. Kids love it too.

Mmmmm....what's it called in French (or Flemish?). I'll be in Bruxelles in a couple of weeks.

When I lived in the USA they used to sell what they called 'sandwich meat', which was Spam in all but name, and it was delicious.

God, I'm hungry....

Bruxelles being Frog-speak then yes, la charcuterie is where it's at. But I always associated saucisse jambon (ham sausage) with the variety made from compressed ham, rather like the Polish varieties. This is truly delicious, but is it really Spam? The Italian sausage mortadella is very much like Spam, but spicier and lighter in texture. As I always say about sausage, there is no bad sausage, but some is better than others! One of my all-time favourites is merguez, great if you like paprika - which I do.

But Tyne-Brand Spam + Branston Pickle = unbeatable!!

Bugger my diet, I'm off downstairs for some nosh!

PS: one of the best things about eating out in Belgium is that you (usually) get a nice little dish of winkles as an appetiser...truly ace in my opinion! Nearly as good as a dish of chopped green chilis in soy sauce in real Chinese restaurants in the UK!

I can't abide spam in any form, and Brian loves it fried, he fries it with the kitchen window wide open and with me gone.

And yes it has long been established that the Belgian kitchen far surpasses that of the French these days. I'm not too well up in French on all the names for the different types of charcutrie. But you will see them all displayed, don't be afraid to ask for a taste sample before you buy.

BG, my daughter was just round with a big roll of spam, for her two little dogs! It was Veal spam, 'kalfsworst' in Flemish and it had on it 'saucisson de veau' in French. So in French that would make spam 'saucisson de jambon'. I love to bake slices of the one with mushrooms mixed in, saucisson de champignon mmmmmmmmmm. Sorry again for messing up your diet! LOL.
