Where is This? 31

Ann B

I saw this post and I thought "what about the Merry Maid". I never met her so its not down to me. Then I realised you were talking about the "Highgate" a once proud and noble establishment who's threshold I darkened many a time.

Alas sorry that is also a wrong answer, but you are getting nearer. The Highgate would be number three on the pub crawl I mentioned.

Phil,
I think I was the merry maid last night after my pub crawl around Balsall Heath.
Off we go again then.

Not that I would wish to discourage you as you sound like you are having such a good time, but I fear the pub in question was demolished at least 20 years ago, but if you nicked over the road to the Castle and Falcon you might find some one who remembers it.

The The Lyttleton Arms was in Balsall Heath Rd, and was as the name suggests a little place. Part of this pub was also in Balsall Heath Rd and the other was on Moseley Road. So you now have the location all you need is the name.

The Earl Grey? (Not my side of town either and that's the only one I've heard of in that area - not very scientific I know)!!

Right up the other end of the road, the Earl Grey was on the corner of Pershore Rd and Balsall Heath Rd.

postie,

A git I may be but sneaky never. The pub backed on to my old mates factory Eric Blockley he made fancy lighting and copper kettles and all sorts of fancy goods.

On the other corner was Morris Goldstien the best Tailor in Birmingham. He was also secretary of the All England Table Tennis Association. I remember we transported some tables on one of our lorries as a favour once to a match at the GKN in Heath St Winson Green. Well our lads were no furniture movers and one got a deep scratch in tranport. They had to get one in from somewhere else fast. Needless to say he never asked me again.

I bet he put 20 quid on my next suit for that.

Oh yes, did I not say you are right it was the Waggon and Horses.

PMC - I took a short cut down one of those two roads in the summer as the traffic was backed up - how I did not end up in the park with all that flesh on view I will never know. I do agree however the houses were not the problem.
