Yew Tree (Inn), Brookvale Road

Hi.
I was speaking to the landlord of the Yew Tree last night, who I have known all my life. He wants loads of old pictures and maybe some other interesting info on the pub. Not to mention he wants to find out when it was built and that sort of stuff.

I said I will do what I can. I've tried google many many times and no such luck, so I thought this would be the best place to find out.

In fact any interesting info on Witton/Aston would be extremely useful also.

Obviously a lot of that I can find out myself....but old photos and maybe past landlords is of primary importance :-p

Thanks :D

I have researched back to 1868 at that time it was Mrs Mary Sargant publican address just said Witton it was actually in Witton Lane it became Brookfield road at a later date. (1900's) The Mee family ran the Yew Tree for quite a few years 1872 to 1892.
after 1956 it did not name the publicans.
OK make mine a pint :D

Sean welcome, my Mom worked at the Yew Tree Brookvale Road in the 1950s.:)

My God John - I will have to admit I don't know one thing about 'Yew Tree Inn' or anything else you find answers for - Think you are bloody marvelous. . .how on earth do you do it?????

Hard work Beryl I'm sure as they all do, and I thank them for it:)

hi i used to occasionally drink in the yew tree between 1959-1964 i lived not far from the pub the one thing that used to facinate me was the ansells advert on the side of wall a picture of a man up a ladder paintig the ansells sign

I think my sister was a barmaid here at one time..
probably would have been in the 80's when she lived on Wyrley Birch
my brother used to drink in there a lot, too, and have to leave his car outside and get a taxi home to Erdington

Hi Pedrocut,

Thats a nice picture of the Yew Tree in the snow, back in the days when it was kept busy of an afternoon by all the factory workers that worked at GEC, IMI etc in the days when we had some manufacturing in this country !
