Yardley Road School - Cottesbrook Road School, Junior and Infant schools, Acocks Green, Birmingham

My sister's, my mother's and my aunt's primary school. I joined in 1952ish at the age of 4. Wonderful headmistresses, Miss Pritchard taught me that squirrels lived in a drey. Later, Miss Onions took over near the end of my stay. Imagine the nicknames. Mr Friar and Mr Collins were my main class teachers and I reckon they gave me a good start. Miss Yates chased me around the playground and caught me by the braces, in a nice way. The school name changed to Cottesbrook Road School from Yardley Road School around 1951. Ths school was of wooden construction and single storey. There were air raid shelters at the end of the playground that I never had to use.
