Yardley Cemetery Plot Map

Mrs Vicarage 2

New Member
Hi I am trying to trace a map which shows the plots at Yardley Cemetery. I am looking for a burial which in the register is identified as Section/Square - D (lawn). Grave No 74873. This is an unmarked grave which my fanily wish to visit with a view of adding a stone. The person buried there is Hilda BOWLER who died in August 1962. Any help would be appreciated.

hi have you tried using the search box putting in yardley cemetery map ?? we had a thread already for this and on that thread is map showing the sections..but the map does not mark the grave numbers as there would not be enough room on the map to do this

Try here

If the office is open they will mark the grave on a map for you.

Mrs V - My map shows graves dating back to the 1930's. Having read your original message (again - more carefully this time!) I see you're looking for something more recent. The whole site is large so I guess there are separate maps for each area so your best bet, as suggested by Janice, would be to visit the office. When I went there the lady was very helpful and produced the above map in a few minutes.

yes the office will look and mark up where it should be....but as in our case we still found it hard to locate as the area is overgrown and plots outlines hard to follow.......its good you have the number as there might be some more cared for ones which show the number on the front ( by the feet) and you can hopefully count forward/back or both to find the corect plot. This cemetary does not have many burials nawadays and there are no staff ( diggers etc) on site to help you.
The office is only open Teus/Weds/Thurs up to 1 pm I think.

Hi

Thank you everyone. The map of your relative was so helpful John and thanks for the advice Keith. I have now contacted the cemetery so hopefully will get a reply from them. I will let you know.

Last time I tried the office it was closed and had to go to Kings Norton BUT they say they now cant search for you and you have to go to the website and pay £10 -not sure if its refunded if no record. The other way is to go to Library of Brum and scroll though endless films to get your location......I did this today and got a section and number BUT on the map the sections are NUMBERED and the film records are LETTERS..........so dont know where to try now........thought I would ask here before attempting to ask Kings Norton ( the young girl there is usually very helpful - if shes allowed to be).
The record I found was section E and No 25691 - common.
Thanks

The grave number Jukebox has written on the map and which is in section 24 is 25417 so I would start there and see if I can work out where the numbers go to find 25691. There are usually workers tidying the graves/grass and it might be possible to ask them about section E in case common graves are in a different area.

According to BCC website the office at Yardley is open Tuesday to Thursday. Last time I went armed with a section and grave nunber and a map the lady in the office marked the area on the map for me. What they are not supposed to do is search the records to find out if someone is buried there. You do that online and can see if there is a record before you pay the £10.

So I've found my Great Grandmother- Martha Brain (her married name at the time of death) and she was scattered in the North West in the Garden of rest so I'm not sure where to look on the Yardley Cemetery map. Also, her husband died in Birmingham too yet there's no record of him buried or scattered anywhere? Thank you for any information.

First of all - as I posted earlier the suggestion is the office is open Tuesday to Thrsday so if planing a visit go on one of those days or phone on one of those days and ask where on the map the Garden of Rest is.
Alternatively there are usually workers around who you could ask.

What is the name of her husband?

Thank you. Sadly I don't live in Birmingham anymore and for health reasons cannot even attempt to get there else I'd be there trawling everywhere they lived. Her Husband was Frederick Sidney Brain, died in 1961. Martha died in 1963. I can call the office and ask. Thank you.
