WWI - memorials?

Joanna

master brummie
I have recently discovered that a relative of mine (a great-great uncle) died in WWI at France and Flanders. He came from Sparkbrook/Greet.

Is there a war memorial anywhere?

Hi Joanna: Have you looked for your g-g-Uncle on the Commonwealth War Graves site at https://www.cwgc.org/ He should be on there with details of where he is buried, etc. Are you looking for his name on a Birmingham memorial as well?

I did look on that site but can't seem to find him at all.

I was wondering if he might appear on a Birmingham memorial.

Hi Joanna: Can you give us his name please? It will give us a bit more to go on. Thanks.

Yes, his name was George Butler. He was born in Birmingham and that is where he enlisted. He was with the 16th Lancers.

I've just found him, but its kind of confirmed to me that its not him as the age isn't right. I'm going on what I've been told so I think I've been given duff information!

Hi Joanna: There is often a lot of misinformation given to relatives and that makes it a lot more difficult to track people down. The history of the l6th Lancers is very interesting.
Just Google it.

Joanna, as has been said family info' is not always correct, also many even changed names, or up or down their ages when in listing for what ever reason...
