WW2/ Territorial Army service....

After years of searching for my fathers War record the recent Ancestry ones added found one.But not as expected as it was for theTerritorial Army from 1945-1959.....Previously I had found many WW2 Army ones for the same name but they were just the single card which gives little info to say its the right person.
HisTA one has many pages and has correct Father and address so it's correct.It gives an Army Number and says at one point he went to Israel which we remember him mentioning. As far as I knowTA is voluntary and we have family recollections of him not wanting to return to Army from a leave and he was younger then sure he did regular service before TA.
So I revisited my old saved records with same name and the one I think is him has a different Army number - would this be a normal thing or is it wrong person.Would there be anywhere to check if these are same person without contacting Army which I know takes years for any replies.
I can't upload any images at the moment but will when on PC.

Forgive im at work having a Brew
so im thinking on my feet
yes ww2 soldiers numbers were changed
ie if they moved regiments
on demob your no stayed the same
i only know this as a group of family medals
i was looking into hit me with 2 numbers
i changed units in the 70s80s
ie TA & Reg kept my no

WW2 Jerry soldiers number remained the same
after changing Units

Easy To Research

In WWI soldiers could have different numbers, if they changed regiments for example. I wouldn't be surprised if the practice continued.

I thought it was a relative straightforward process to get later service records for a deceased person.

You can apply fairly easily - I've just done so but it can take up to 2 years to get records back.
You do hear back quite quickly if they decide you can't have the records for any reason. (Like my Father's because they contain medical notes from a stay in hospital - release date 2048).

I applied for records of 2 people around 3 years ago ( sending copies of death) and not heard anything from the army one but had a 10 page gobbledegook reply from the Navy one which no one online could work out what it said/meant.....
