WW2 police

Can anyone help with a question about wartime civilian police. I am aware that the police was a reserved occupation but where did recruits come from when needed? I have been told there were temporary police officers and a Police Auxiliary Service but I can't find out anything about them or who was involved.

Thanks

The Police Auxiliary Service was the start of the Special Constable Service, ex-servicemen invalided out were recruited in to the police and some height & sight rules were suspended, the Home Guard helped also, these are just my memories and are not official. Len.

If you contact Dave Cross at the site Len has posted I am sure he will help you as well.
